Constant dripping from the discharge pipe
Worn valve, or excess system pressure. We test both before replacing anything.
The temperature-and-pressure relief valve is your heater's last line of defence: if pressure or temperature climbs too high, it opens and saves the tank. A valve that drips, sticks, or has been tampered with is a safety problem, not a nuisance.

Clarksville Water Heater Repair
Every storage-tank water heater has a T&P valve, usually on the top or side of the tank, with a discharge pipe running down to near the floor. If the thermostat fails and the tank overheats, or pressure builds beyond safe limits, the valve opens and releases water before the tank can fail catastrophically. That is not theoretical: a tank with a disabled relief valve and a failed thermostat is a genuine explosion risk, which is why plumbers react strongly to valves that have been capped, plugged, or piped incorrectly.
A dripping T&P valve does not automatically mean the valve is bad. It can also mean system pressure is too high — often because the expansion tank has failed — or that thermal expansion has nowhere to go in a closed plumbing system. We test the valve and the system pressure together, so you do not pay for a new valve when the real fault is pressure, and you do not get a new valve that starts dripping again next week.
Never cap, plug, or valve off a T&P discharge pipe, and never replace a T&P valve with a plain plug 'to stop the drip.' If your valve is dripping, the drip is information — either the valve is worn or your system pressure needs attention. Both are fixable, and both are cheaper than the alternative.
Don't Ignore These
Worn valve, or excess system pressure. We test both before replacing anything.
Mineral buildup can seize a valve shut — the most dangerous failure, because it removes your safety protection.
A previous 'fix' that created a safety hazard. This needs correcting promptly.
Upfront & Simple
1
We operate the lever carefully and observe whether it seals again.
2
Expansion tank and household pressure are checked alongside the valve.
3
Matched temperature and pressure ratings for your tank, with proper discharge routing.
4
We confirm the new valve holds at normal pressure and the discharge route is clear.
Honest Pricing
The valve itself is a modest part; cost varies if the discharge pipe also needs correcting or if a failed expansion tank is the underlying cause. Because this is a safety device, we never offer a cheaper 'plug it' option — there is not one. One upfront price after testing, before work.
You approve one price before any work begins — no surprise line items, and no work starts without your say-so. If a repair stops making sense next to the age of the unit, we will say so plainly and talk through replacement instead of pushing a repair.

Good To Know
Either the valve is worn and no longer seals, or system pressure is too high — commonly a failed expansion tank. We test pressure before deciding.
It is a job for someone comfortable with plumbing and with matching the valve's ratings exactly. A wrong-rating valve does not protect the tank. If unsure, call us.
Gently, once a year. If it drips after testing or feels seized, it needs replacement — valves do wear out, especially in mineral-heavy water.
It directs scalding water safely down to near the floor if the valve opens. It must never be capped, plugged, or routed where discharge would cause injury or hidden damage.
The tank overheated or over-pressurised and the valve did its job. Call promptly: the underlying thermostat or pressure fault still needs fixing.
